Jean Marie (Moeller) Twetten was born July 4, 1929, in Compton, Calif., the daughter of Earl and Rose (Thompson) Moeller. At the age of 3, her family moved to Moneta near Spencer to take up farming. Jean graduated in 1947 from Moneta High School and went on to attend Morningside College.
On May 28, 1950, Jean married Walter Robert "Bob" Twetten, of Spencer. They made homes in Spencer, Iowa City, Ames and Kewanee, Ill., before returning to Ames in 1973. Their three children are Judy (Roger Ryan) Twetten, of Cresco; John Twetten, of Lodi, Wis.; and Jim (Amy) Twetten, of Ames. Their grandchildren are David and Kathryn Ryan, of Cresco, and Mindy and Tanner Twetten, of Ames.
Jean's interests included reading, cooking and making friends. In her later years, she became enamored with creative writing and poetry. Her frequent "painless poems" were inspired by family, friends and events of her life.
Besides raising her children, Jean worked in many capacities in the Ames community, starting in 1965, including assistant teacher at Choo Choo Nursery School, and bookkeeper at Shaughnessy's interior decorating. In 1974, she returned to school at Iowa State University and began working part-time at the Iowa State University Library. She soon became employed full-time at the library, retiring in 1989.
Surviving Jean are her husband; three children; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce Johns, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bobbie Kruse, of Greeley, Colo.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Mary Lou; and one brother, Kenneth.
Adams Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Bethany Manor Chaplaincy Endowment.
