Andrea Oppedal, 36, died Saturday, Jan. 20, at her home in Mason City. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Following services, the body will be cremated and her cremated remains will be buried at a later date.

Andrea Lynn Oppedal was born July 10, 1970, in Story City, to Stan and Barbara (Brown) Oppedal. She grew up in Jewell, graduating from South Hamilton in 1988. She was confirmed and a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. She graduated with honors from Ellsworth Community College in 1990. She earned a degree in psychology and social work from Iowa State University in 1994. She worked for Beloit Lutheran Children and Family Services, Youth and Shelter Service and Gerard Counseling Service in Ames. She also worked at Barilla in Ames. At the time of her death, she lived in Mason City, where she was assistant manager for North Iowa Humane Society. She had a great passion and love for animals; she rescued and fostered many cats and dogs. She had a tender heart and brilliant smile and had a special way of reaching out and helping others.

She is survived by her parents, Stan and Barb Oppedal, of Ames; one brother, Brad Oppedal, of Bellingham, Wash.; aunts, uncles and cousins; three pets, Kiva, Miracle and Karma; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Vivian Brown and Torkel and Hannah Oppedal.

We know she has found peace and freedom from the pain and challenges of her mental illness that she endured for so many years.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Memorials will be given to the North Iowa Transition Center and the North Iowa Humane Society.
