Roberta Joy (Classon) Gutmann, 75, of Ames, died Saturday, Jan. 20, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service will be at a later date.

Roberta Joy (Classon) Gutmann was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Jewell. She was raised by her mother, LuLu, and her stepfather, Silas Wierson, in Roland. After graduating from Roland High School in 1949, she worked at the Iowa State Physical Plant. She married Jack Gutmann April 25, 1953, and they had two children, Nanci and Todd. Most of their married life was spent in Ames. She enjoyed baking, gardening and being a homemaker. She retired from CAST at ISU in 1993.

She is survived by her children, Nanci (Jock) Williamson, of Argyle, N.Y., and Todd (Amy) Gutmann, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Kelsey and Kevin Williamson, of Argyle, N.Y., and Ben and Danny Gutmann, of Dallas; one sister, Sharon (Roger) Christensen, of Austin, Minn.; one brother-in-law, George (Carmen) Gutmann, of Ames; sisters-in-law, Helen Kibby, of Conrad, Geraldine Jones, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Doris Classon of Story City. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dale Classon; and her husband, Jack.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be made to the Israel Family Hospice House or Homeward Hospice in Ames.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
