Margaret E. Litzel, 93, of Ames, died Sunday, Jan. 14, at Bickford Cottage. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Story Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Margaret E. Litzel was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Colo, to Ralph and Sarah (Brooks) Handsaker. She married E. J. (Jim) Litzel July 30, 1939. She helped her dad raise her younger brother and two sisters after her mother died at an early age. She enjoyed her family and baking cookies for Litzel Lumber and Hardware every day for more than 25 years. She was known as the "Cookie Lady." She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three sons, John (Connie) Litzel, Jerry Litzel, both of Ames, and Jim (Cindy) Litzel, of Torrance, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Lisa Litzel, of Torrance, Calif., Brian Litzel, of Ames, and Libby Litzel, of Ames; four great-grandchildren, Cody Litzel, Isabelle, Lynden and Madelyn Stone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Adams Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Youth and Shelter Services of Ames.
