Oct. 30, 1925-Jan. 2, 2007

Mary Beth Lieberknecht, 71, of Ames, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at First Christian Church with the Rev. David Digby and the Rev. Steve McDuff of United Church of Christ Congregational officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Mary Beth Lieberknecht was born Oct. 30, 1925, in
Beloit, Wis., to Roy and Frances (Newell) Lieberknecht. She grew up in Wisconsin and Iowa, and had lived in Ames since 1967. She received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Iowa State University and a master's degree from The Ohio State University. She worked in the computer center at ISU for 25 years, retiring in 1992.

She also had worked at Boeing in Seattle, Wash., and spent a year living in London. Music had a large influence on her life. She sang with the Songbirds and when needed, she was their accompanist. She also sang with Greenhills Choral Group. She loved Sudoku puzzles, did beautiful origami and enjoyed reading.

She is survived by three sisters, Eleanor Tanck, of Bellevue, Wash., Jane Orman, of Thiensville, Wis., and Margaret Jarvie, of London, England; one brother, John Jessup, of Boyne City, Mich.; and nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be directed to Greenhills Retirement Community, Homeward Hospice, Israel Family Hospice House or donor's choice in her name
