Harley R. Cheville Jr., 63, of Ames, died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on July 8, 2006. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

He was born May 26, 1943, in Ames to Harley and Hazel (Pousch) Cheville Sr. He attended Ames schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-64. He was honored as a sharpshooter and an expert rifleman. He was self-employed as a sheet rock installer for several years before joining the city of Ames as a lineman in 1967. He retired in 1999.

He enjoyed hunting and photography and was an excellent musician, playing the guitar and keyboard.

He married Linda Marie Wheeler Oct. 2, 1965; she preceded him in death. He married Mary J. Stika May 28, 1988, in Ames. He was a member of Isaak Walton League, where he taught hunter safety classes for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Cheville, of Ames; one son, Doug (Marcy) Cheville and their children, Jack and Gracie, of Maxwell; and two sisters, Jenny (Fritz) Bassett, of Napier, and Kathy (Burt) Ashburn, of Ogden.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
