THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 27, 2006.

Carleen Joan Anderson, 52, of Story City, died Saturday, June 24, at her home after a well-fought battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday June 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City.

Carleen Johnson was born July 16, 1953, to Curtis and Carolyn (Maurstad) Johnson of Ellsworth. She graduated from South Hamilton High School in 1971. She married David R. Anderson, of Story City, June 9, 1973. She earned both bachelor of music and bachelor of science in education degrees from Iowa State University, graduating with distinction in both. She was a teacher with Ames Community Schools since 1975. She taught music at Mitchell, Edwards and Roosevelt Elementary schools and spent the past 16 years teaching third grade at Fellows Elementary School. She touched many young lives in her years of teaching, as well as those of her colleagues. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was the director of the primary singers for many years, served on the board of education in the past and lent her beautiful singing voice to the church for special music needs and events. She was very active in 4-H with her son, Jeff. She was a member of the Ames Education Association, Iowa State Education Association and P.E.O. - Chapter FZ.

She is survived by her husband David, of Story City; three children, Nick, of Ellsworth, Rachel (Brant) Ausenhus, of Ankeny, and Jeff, of Ames; her mother, Carolyn Johnson, of Ames; five sisters, Cathy (Curt) Frost, of Gales Ferry, Conn., Cyndy (Steve) Hockman, of Ankeny, Chris (Rod) Smith, of Midlothian, Texas, Celeste (Jim) Bresette, of Columbia, Md., and Colleen (Keith) Maranto, of Frankfort, Ill.; her mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Willard Anderson, of Ames; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Bill Tout) Anderson, of Ashland, Ore., and Marlene (Rick) Polmear, of Englewood, Colo.; 14 nephews; and five nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Curtis W. Johnson; and her grandparents, Alma and Alfred Maurstad and Jesse and Matilda Johnson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established as the Carleen Anderson Educational Trust.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is in charge of arrangements.
