THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, April 25, 2006.

Robert James, 66, of Des Moines, died peacefully Saturday, April 22, at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home in Des Moines. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be at a later date in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Robert was born Oct. 21, 1939, on a farm in Lucas County, the son of Tom E. and Florence James. After graduating from Lucas High School, he moved to Des Moines, where he worked as a sales rep until he started his own business. Beginning in the mid-1960s, he owned and operated truck stops in the central Iowa area, the longest being Cyclone Truck Stop in Ames, which he operated for 37 years until he died. He also was a self-taught computer programmer and operated a computer consulting business in conjunction with the truck stops.

He had two passions in his life - his family and his business. He would do anything for either of them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tom; and one nephew, Rusty James.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; one son, Jeff (Bobette) James of Altoona; his mother, Florence James of Chariton; two brothers, Ron (Jo) James and Don (Carol) James of West Des Moines; one sister, Marie (Wayne) Fulton of Casa Grande, Ariz.; three granddaughters, Amy, Gina and Anna James of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home, 3211 Hubbell Ave., Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice.
