NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 9, 2006.

Joel S. Anderson, 84 of Nevada died on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 9 at the Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastors Myron D. Herzberg and David R. Burling officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Joel was born on September 18, 1921 in Roland to Ove O. and Anna (Ristesund) Anderson. He was a 1939 graduate of Roland Consolidated School. Joel served in the Army in North Africa and Italy during W.W. II. He continued his education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Joel graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with a degree in animal science. On August 5, 1958, he married Janet Mathison in Des Moines. Joel was a farmer and farm manager. He was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and the American Legion. Joel was known for his great sense of humor and his great smile. He enjoyed hunting and loved watching sports.

Joel is survived by his wife Janet of Nevada; a daughter, Ann Anderson of Ft. Collins, Colorado; a brother, Ralph Anderson of Radcliffe; 2 sisters, Ethel Anderson of Webster City and Patricia Corpening of Saratoga, Wyoming.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, and 6 sisters.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed in Mr. Anderson's name to the Memorial Lutheran Church or the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with Joel's arrangements.
