THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, March 10, 2006.
Dr. William Howard Olson, 75, of Topeka, Kan., went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, March 1, at Topeka Community Health Care Center.
William Howard Olson was born March 5, 1930, in Gilmore City, the son of Earl and Aldean Jacobson Olson. He graduated from Bode High School in Bode, in 1947 and received a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1952. He was a private veterinary practitioner in Charles City before working for the USDA. He moved to Topeka in 1987. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and Glory to God Community. He married Gloria Idellys Wierson Olson April 1, 1950. She preceded him in death, along with a daughter Laurie. He married Lenore Laughlin Estal Feb. 20, 1981, in Charles City.
Survivors include his wife, Lenore; one son, Philip Olson (Rocksann) of Iowa City; three daughters, Vivien Halloran (Tim) of Muscatine, Martha Hackbart (Terry) of Golden, Colo., and Sarah Gelner (Alan) of Story City; two stepsons, Jeff Estal (Melanie) of Tennessee and Jerry Estal (Ann) in Colorado; one brother, Dr. Robert Olson (Marge) of Bemidji, Minn.; one sister, Janice Parker (Ron) of Bode; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A Glory to God prayer service and rosary was at Brennan-Mathena Funeral home and a Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Dr. Olson will be laid to rest in Charles City. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He lived for Jesus, and his life blessed many people.
