AMES - Lois E. Stratton, 88, of Ames died March 6, 2006 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames from complications of a heart attack.
Lois was born in Colo, IA, on January 25, 1918 to Joseph and Lulu (Dayton) Brownfield. At the age of two, the family moved to Champaign, IL, and then back to Colo, IA when Lois was ten years old. After graduating from Colo High School in 1936, Lois worked at Iowa State University in the dairy cattle disease test lab for a year 18 months. She then married Galen "Fritz" Stratton on March 24, 1943 in Princeton, MO. Fritz and Lois farmed a mile west of Nevada on Lincoln Highway for 38 years before retiring in 1983.
Lois is survived by her husband, Fritz, of Ames; two sons: Gary Stratton of Hudson, IA, Gale (Kae) Stratton of Nevada, IA; five grandchildren: Galen (Teresa) Stratton of Williamsburg, IA, Garrett (Stephanie) Stratton of Topeka, KS, Karmin Stratton of Baltimore, MD, Lisa (Jim) Weigel of Grimes, IA, Nikki (Dennis) Pratt of Nevada, IA; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister: Lillian (Hap) Wokoun of Tulsa, OK; one sister-in-law: Berneice Brownfield of Colo, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; on brother, Glenn "Tony" Brownfield; one sister: Marion Ewoldt; one daughter-in-law: Maxine Stratton; and one granddaughter: Kimberly Stratton.
No visitation is planned. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Bacon Funeral and Crematory of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
