David E. Lycke, 56, of Nevada, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

David E. Lycke was called to the Lord Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Chet Ryan Mortuary with the Rev. David Burling officiating. The body will be cremated following the service, and the cremains will be buried at a later date.

Dave was born on Oct. 25, 1949, in Boone County to Lorean E. and Jean (Ackerman) Lycke. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1968. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968, serving as an Army cook in Berlin, Germany. He married Beth A. Gildea Sept. 1, 1973, in Boone County.

He worked as a chef at the Des Moines Golf & Country Club, Embassy Club, and Hyperion Field Club. He also wrote an article for the West Des Moines paper called the Le Chef and taught an adult ed class in cooking. In 1993, he opened his own restaurant called the Prairie View Cafe at the Prairie View Golf Course. He retired in 2001 after suffering a stroke. Besides his love for cooking, he loved being with family, going fishing and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Lycke of Nevada; his mother, Jean Cavender of Nevada; two sons, Jason Lycke of Washington, D.C., and Mike Lycke of Nevada; two sisters, Becky Harp of Mason City and Cindy Calentine of Nevada; one grandson, Chase Lycke of Nevada; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lorean E. Lycke.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in Dave's name for the American Diabetes Association.
