THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, December 3, 2005.

Malcolm Laing, 57, of Ames died Thursday, Dec. 1 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church.

Malcolm Laing was born Sept. 4, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas, to parents Malcolm M. and Ruth (Wagner) Laing. He married Jennifer Masters on June 5, 1992, in Houston. He had lived in Ames for four months. Before that he lived in Los Angeles for 10 years and the Houston area before that. He was a minister at Collegiate Presbyterian Church. He was an active member of Presbytery, serving on several committees of ministry. He and his wife enjoyed cooking together, and he enjoyed fly fishing. He was the pastor at Collegiate Presbyterian Church for just four months but made a strong impact during that time.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Laing of Ames; his father, Malcolm M. Laing, of Amarilla, Texas; two sons, Aaron (Holly) Laing of Grand Junction, Colo., and Adam Laing of Los Angeles; a daughter, Rebecca (Brian) Bower, of Staunton, Va.; three step-daughters, Valerie Madole of Houston, Sara Madole of Houston, Amy Madole of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Charles Laing of Eager, Ariz., David (Mary) Laing of McAllen, Texas; three grandchildren, Taylor and Morgan Laing and Madison Bower.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Malcolm Laing Memorial at Collegiate Presbyterian Church.
