Funeral Rites for Mrs. Herman Knapp Friday Morning
Ames, Nov. 13 -- Funeral rites for Mrs. Mary Knapp, widow of the late Herman Knapp, for many years business manager of Iowa State college, who died at her home on Ash avenue here early Wednesday, will be held at 10 a. m., Friday from the home, with Dr. A. H. Barker, pastor of the First Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Walter A. Morgan of Creston, in charge. Burial will be in the college cemetery.
Mrs. Knapp had been in ill health for many years, and had never completely recovered from a broken hip sustained in a fall some time ago.
Born Mary Woodruff McDonald at New Concord, Ohio, Nov. 21, 1860, she was graduated from Iowa State college in 1883.
Mrs. Knapp was the first librarian at Iowa State, and taught mathematics. She served as the first president of the Ames branch of the American Association of University omen, and served presidencies of the AA chapter of P. E. O., and the Iowa chapter of P. E. O. She was the oldest living member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
For 55 years she was a member of the First Methodist church in Ames and served as superintendent of the Sunday school for 10 years. She was the sixth president of the Faculty Women's club, and an honorary president.
Mr. Knapp, for many years business manager at Iowa State, died in March, 1935. Surviving are four children, Seaman Knapp and Mrs. Jeanette Knapp Stoddard of Ames, Mrs. Hermine Knapp Pickford and Byron McDonald Knapp of Des Moines.
