Former Zearing Woman Dies Early Today in Marshalltown
Zearing, Nov. 12--Mrs. Nora Lee Eley, 69, widow of the late George Eley and for over forty years a resident of this community, died at the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown at 5:40 a. m. today from complications following a lingering illness.
Mrs. Eley had been a well-known resident of the Zearing community for over forty years, but in August of this year, following the death of her husband a few months ago, she moved to Marshalltown to be with her daughter, Miss Avanelle, teacher in the schools there.
The body was brought back to Zearing today and will be at the Brouhard funeral home pending the services at the Church of Christ here on Friday afternoon at 2, after which the body will be laid to rest in the Zearing cemetery by the side of her husband who died in February.
She was born at New Providence, Hardin county, Sept. 3, 1872, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McCormack. She was united in marriage to Geo. Eley November 30, 1893, at Clemons and four children were born to them.
She leaves a son, Wilbur, a farmer near here, and the daughter, Avanelle, a teacher at Marshalltown. One son, Clause, died in 1916 at the age of 21 years and a daughter, Lois, died in 1921 at the age of 11 years.
Mrs. Eley had long been a member of the Church of Christ here and had been active in the Missionary and Aid societies and other auxiliary affairs of the church.
