Funeral Services for Sandford [sic] Helland Held at Huxley
Huxley, June 14 -- Funeral services for Sanford Helland were held at the Fjeldberg church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, following a prayer service at the home at one o'clock. During the services at the home, Mrs. T. H. Mason sang a solo, "Nearer, My God To Thee."
The services at the church opened with prayer and a hymn, "Blessed Are the Heirs' Heaven," after which there was scripture reading by the pastor, Walter Bappe sand a solo, "God Will Take Care of You."
Rev. Sampson chose for his text the 13th verse in the 21st chapter of the Book of Acts, here he found words to comfort the bereaved family in the loss of their dear one. Walter Bappe sang another solo, "Lord, I'm Coming Home," after which Rev. Jacobson, a neighbor and friend, spoke briefly.
The floral offerings were numerous and were a silent tribute from the many relatives and friends. In addition to the beautiful flowers, many gave personal gifts to the missions in memory of the departed relative and friend. Having spent his entire life in this community, he was well known and the services were attended by a large crowd that filled the church to its utmost capacity.
Pallbearers were his two brothers, Nellean and Eddie Helland, two brothers-in-law, Carl and Elmer Torgerson and two nephews, LaVerne and R. B. Helland. The remains were interred in the Fjeldberg cemetery.
