Mrs. Osmundson Called by Death
Mrs. Betsy Osmundson, a resident of Slater for nearly 60 years, passed away at her home here at 11:40 o'clock Sunday evening. She was 82 years of age.
Mrs. Osmundson was stricken with a heart attack. Her death came suddenly and unexpectedly as she had been in comparatively good health.
Born in Wisconsin on Feb. 17, 1858, she was married to Henry Osmundson there. Shortly afterwards the family moved to a farm near Slater. They moved into town about 40 years ago.
Mrs. Osmundson was one of our pioneer settlers and had lived to see many changes in Slater and the surrounding community. She had been a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church for many years and was active in its various organizations. She will be missed by many who knew her as a kind, neighborly woman.
Surviving are three sons: Howard of Perry; Edward of Pontiac, Mich., and George of Forest City; two daughters, Mrs. Vina Kunzman of Long Beach, Cal., and Mrs. Sanford Tesdell of Slater; two sisters: Mrs. Mary Stole of Story City, and Mrs. Ellen Hill of Detroit. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren. Mr. Osmundson passed away seven years ago.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday from the Riis Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock from the Bethlehem Lutheran church, with Rev. E. R. Rorem in charge. He chose for his text Matt. 6:33, "Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God."
Mrs. A. L. Peterson and Mrs. M. S. Heggen sang two duets, "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." The beautiful floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Albert Lehman and Mrs. Pete Tometich. There were some gifts to the missions in memory of the departed.
Pall bearers were Herbert and Will Hadley, A. L. Peterson, J. J. Carlson, J. C. Ersland and T. W. Rawson.
Interment was in the Bethlehem cemetery.
