Funeral Services Held for Pioneer Story County Woman

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary A. Cook were held in the country home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Chitty near State Center Monday afternoon at 2:30. Services were conducted by the Rev. J. D. Ransom. The sermon was based on St. John 14 and included the poem, "Crossing the Bar," and the song, "God Will Take Care of You."The pallbearers were Ray Chitty and Mrs. Cook's 5 grandsons, Eugene Cook, Harry Sutherland, Leo Sutherland, Arnold Severson and Keith Cooper. The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Da-y Adam and Alta Roberts.
Mrs. Cook's last illness was of short duration although she had been in failing health for several years. All was done that kind and loving hands could do until God called her home.
Mary Adelaide, daughter of Isaac and Rebecca French, was born near Nevada June 11, 1856, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry F. Chitty, July 6, 1940, at the age of 84 years, 2 weeks and 4 days.
She was united in marriage to Charles W. Cook July 3, 1877, who departed this life May 25, 1895. To this union were born six children Glen D. of Waterloo; Blanche, (now Mrs. O. E. Wampler) of Bayard; Ethel (now Mrs. Henry G. Chitty) of Stat Center; Clarence J., who passed away on Aug. 13, 1926; and two sons who died in infancy.
As a widow she worked faithfully to rear her children. As a kind, loving Christian mother her thoughts were for the comfort and happiness of her children and her grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Beulah Wampler Severson, Wilma Chitty Sutherland, Eugene Cook, Henrietta Chitty Sutherland, Doris Cook Cooper and four great grandsons.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her twin sister, Mrs. Adeline Weidner of West Des Moines. Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Weidner were the first twins born in Story county. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn her passing. Her kindly disposition and sweet smit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
