Funeral Services Held at Zearing for Mrs. W. A. Reese

Zearing, July 11--Funeral services were held for Mrs. W. A. Reese of Zearing at her home with many friends and relatives present. By means of an amplifier, the funeral services were able to be heard by the many friends seated in the yard. Rev. R. E. Kerney of the Evangelical church officiated. Mrs. I. S. Madison and Mrs. Guy Clatterbuck cared for the beautiful flowers.

Three vocal selections in quartette arrangement were rendered by Gilbert Womeldorff, Mrs. Verda Fisher, Mrs. Myrtle Martin and LeRoy Kerney, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Lyle Bailey.

The pallbearers were Donald Moore, Max McBride, William McBride, grandsons of the deceased, Margaret Reese and Virginia Havens, granddaughters and Glen Reynolds of Irwin, a nephew of the deceased. Interment was in the Zearing cemetery.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the rites were Mr. and Mrs. R. D. McCord of Carroll; Mr. and Mrs. E. A. McCord and daughter Betty of Nevada; Harold McCord of Denison; Mrs. Lizzie McCord of Collins; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Reynolds of Irwin; Mrs. O. J. King, Mrs. Nellie Grimes and daughter Mable of Eldora, Mrs. Leland Wilson of Union; Leslie McBride, Russell McBride, Mrs. Merle Mathison, Mrs. Wilbur Webb and Mrs. Ilo Beach, all of Nevada; Mrs. Effie Miller of Eldora; Kenneth Savage of Lead, S. D.

Elnora Bowman, daughter of William A. and Anna Bowman, was born at Lisbon, Ia., April 2, 1863, and died at her home in Zearing July 2, 1940 at the age of 77 years and 3 months.

When six weeks of age, the parents moved to El Paso, Ill., in a covered wagon, returning to Iowa when Elnora was a small girl. With the exception of one year in Marshall county, and one year in Shelby county, al her later life was spent in Story county.

On Sept. 11, 1886 she was united in marriage to W. A. Reese. Into this home where born seven children, all of whom are living with the exception of William Dale, who died at the age of one year. The others are Orley G. Reese of Zearing, Fern McBride of Zearing, Wilton Reese, Zearing, Arba Moore of Zearing, Mrs. Milo Havens of Huxley and Merlin O. Reese of Lead, S. D.

Mrs. Reese is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie McCord of Collins and J. B. Harford of Council Bluffs. There are also 17 grandchildren.

She was a member of the Zearing Chapter No. 237 of the O. E. S. and was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was united with the Evangelical church when a girl. She was a woman who stayed close to her home and was much appreciated by her family and friends.
