Former Colo Woman Laid To Rest There

Special to the Journal:
Colo, May 3--The body of the late Mrs. John Thornton, 75, former Colo woman, who died at Winterset on April 26, was laid to rest in the Colo cemetery Sunday afternoon, after brief services at the grave.

Fannie I. Lhommedieu, daughter of the late Henry and Mary Lhommedieu, was born June 27, 1864, near Sycamore, Ill., and passed away from this life on April 26, 1940, at Winterset, Iowa.

When 16 years of age she came to Colo with her parents, two brothers, Delbert and Frank Lhommedieu and sister, Eva E. Lhommedieu Thornton, all of whom have preceded her in death. She continued to make her home at Colo for some time after her marriage to John Thornton on Sept. 27, 1892, moving to Diagonal, Iowa, in the year of 1920. There they lived until a few years ago when the moved to Winterset, near their son, Reuby Thornton.

She was the mother of three children, Mary Estella at home, Elza who preceded her in death at the age of 12 years and a son Reuby John of Winterset.

Early in girlhood she joined the Christian church and in later years became a member of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints church, being a devoted member of faith throughout life. For many years Mrs. Thornton has been a sufferer and for the past 12 years had been an invalid, being cared for by her daughter until death called. Her life was one of patience and thoughtfulness of others in spite of her handicap. She is survived by her husband, John Thornton, daughter Mary Estella, her son Reuby and wife and two grandsons, a granddaughter Betty Thornton having preceded her in death in September, 1939.
