Mrs. Edith Davis Interred Here Saturday Morning
The body of the late Edith Lewis Davis, 72, was laid to rest in Nevada cemetery Saturday morning following a brief service at the grave.
Services had been held the day before in Chicago, where she had recently made her home.
The following is a brief sketch of her life:
"Edith Lewis Davis was born May 17, 1868, near Nevada and spent her girlhood there."She was married to Harry Davis June 30, 1890 and continued to live in Nevada for about 12 years. They then moved to Chicago where they lived until they built their lovely home at Glencoe, but since the death of Mr. Davis she had moved back to Chicago, where she passed away Thursday morning, March 21.
"The husband and two baby daughters preceded her in death. One son, Gould Davis, wife and two daughter, 3 sisters: Mrs. Eva Appelgate of Tipton, Mrs. Estelle Proctor and Mrs. Charles Myer of Freeport survive her.
"She had been in failing health for about a year and seven weeks ago was taken to St. Luke's Memorial hospital where she underwent a surgical operation for a malignant tumor, and it was from this that she suffered until the Angel of Death released her earthly bonds and took her home where suffering and sorrow are unknown.
"She was a member of Central Presbyterian church and a very faithful member.
"In her passing her scores of friends lose one who has always stood for the finer things in life, one who by her ways has helped to make the world a better and happier place for her family and friends.
"She had built for herself a character which ill be remembered as a mark of high living.
Her friends grieve with the loved ones in their hour of bereavement.
"Mr. and Mrs. Gould Davis of Chicago, Mrs. Myer and Mrs. Proctor of Freeport and Mrs. C. H. Banks of Tipton accompanied the body to Nevada for interment."
