Funeral Services for John M. Stratton Held Here Monday

Funeral services for John M. Stratton, 81, native son of Story county who died early Saturday, were held Monday afternoon at the Bishop Funeral home, followed by burial in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife Anna Lough-Stratton, who died November 17, 1924.

The service was in charge of Rev. Theo. Yackel of the Nevada Evangelical church, assisted by Dr. J. O. Simon of Memorial Lutheran church. The latter read the scripture lesson and offered prayer, while the sermon was preached by Rev. Yackel. Mrs. Harry Lough was at the piano for a number of instrumental numbers.

Mr. Stratton, who was at the time of his death one of the oldest native sons of the county, had been failing in health for some time, a sufferer from asthma and heart complications.

John Mecum Stratton was a son of Al and Mary Jane Stratton, born on a farm in the Peoria settlement, south of Maxwell on November 14, 1858.

He grew to manhood in the southern part of the county and on February 15, 1888, he was united in marriage to Anna Lough. She preceded him in death November 17, 1924, they being survived by two sons, Glen R. Stratton of north of Nevada and Cyril Stratton of near Colo. They are also survived by five grandchildren; they bein Garnet, Arthur, Galen and Jean Stratton of near Nevada and Harlan Stratton of near Colo. One surviving sister Mrs. Eva Alderman lives at Seattle and a brother Bert Stratton, at Portland, Oregon.

Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death, they being Mrs. Nina Campbell ad Mrs. Belle Hardesty and George Stratton.

Following their marriage he rented a farm south of Nevada and they lived in that part of the county during the years of their married life until 1922 when they retired from the farm and moved to Nevada. Here the wife died two years later and from that time in the homes of his sons.

John M. "Shorty" Stratton as he was familiarly known was a man of industry and of good character and reputation, a kind husband and father and was held in high regard in the community in which he had spent his entire lifetime.
