Charles Clifton King, son of John and Mary King, was born Jan. 5, 1852, near Marion, Ia., in Linn county, and passed away at his home in Colo Jan. 29, 1940, at the age of 88 years and 24 days. When just a lad he moved with his parents to the Illinois Grove neighborhood in Marshall county, where he grew to young manhood. He later moved to Zearing, Ia., and finally to Coo, where he has lived for the past fifty-three years. On Sept. 5, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella McArthur at Zearing. To this union were born two sons, Don M. and Ross. Don passed away at the age of 8 years. Mr. King traveled for the Champion Harvester company. Later he was engaged in the hardware and grocery business in Coo until the time of his retirement in 1910. During his active life, Mr. King served in various pubic offices such as president of the Colo Savings Bank, and member of the school board. As a young man he united with the Evangelical church of Colo, where he retained his membership until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Ella; his son, Ross; three grandchildren, Ruth King of Marshalltown, Clifton and Mary Arlene King of Colo and one great granddaughter, Karen Rose King. A host of friends join in extending their sympathy to those who feel most keenly the loss of his passing.
