OBITUARY

GEORGE ASKELSON

George Askelson, the son of Sampson and Stella Donhowe Askelson, was born on a farm northeast of Gilbert on May 1, 1878, and passed away at his farm near Gilbert early on the morning of 62 years, 1 month and 25 days.

On October 13, 1894, he was united in marriage to Bertha Hanson. To this union two children, Orlin and Lester, were born. Mr. and Mrs. Askelson also made a home for their niece, Stella Sansgaard, for 14 years. These, together with two little grandchildren, Kenneth and Curtiss, mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.

There also remain in the immediate family four brothers, Nels and Sam of Gilbert, Albert and Oscar of Story City, and one sister, Mrs. Belle Olson of Story City. A sister, Mrs. Engel Haugland, passed away just one month ago.

Mr. Askelson had been in failing health for the past year, and knew his time on this earth was not for long. He was a patient sufferer and was always very happy when relatives and friends came to call on him. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and thru his long suffering his faith in the Savior and a life beyond made his pain easier to bear.

Services for Mr. Askelson were held Thursday in the Gilbert Lutheran church, of which he had been a faithful member for many years, Rev. T. T. Heimarck officiated. A large concourse of relatives and friends were present. Louise Olson presided at the pipe organ. B. D. Kent sang a solo, "The Ninety and Nine." Pallbearers were Roy Shepard, Ernest Shepard, Oscar Gibson, Ralph Lawrence, Amos Fosssel and Walter Fossel. The many flowers and gifts bore silent tribute to the high esteem in which Mr. Askelson was held in the community.

Those out of town attending the funeral were; Mrs. Lars Christiansen and Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Olson and Mrs. Agon Hanson all of Ormsby, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hanson of Storden, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. George Lenning, Mr. and Mrs. Severine Lenning and Henry Lenning of Thor; Mr. and Mrs. V.
