From Story City Herald September 19, 1902 (page 7)

Marie, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Severeid died of diphtheria at nine o'clock, Sunday evening, after an illness of about a week. The last hours of the little sufferer's life were frought with intense suffering, and death though it breaks the heart was a happy relief so to the innocent child. Marie was an exceptionally lovely child and on the 12th day of May celebrated her fourth birthday. To lay away forever such a priceless jewel is sad, sad indeed but the sorrowing parents have the happy consolation that

"'Twas not in cruelty, not in wrath
The Reaper came that day,
'Twas an angel visited the earth
And took the flower away."

Short funeral services were held on the lawn in front of the residence at five o'clock Monday evening and the remains laid to rest to await the resurrection on that fair morn.
