From Story City Herald October 9, 1896 (page 5)

Frank Wier, a brother to Sampson Wier of this place, committed suicide at his home in Carroll, Saturday morning. As far as we are able to learn Mr. Wier had been ill for some time and had run behind financially. This is given as the cause for his rash act. His wife and three small children were away at the time on a visit, and the news was a terrible shock to them. Mr. Wier was a brakeman on the Northwestern, and he was well liked by all knew him.
