MRS. JULIA JORSTAD
Julia Jorstad was born January --, 1851, to parents Sjur and Ragna Larson Mathre, at Lisbon, Ill. She was baptized in infancy, and confirmed at the age of 14 in the Lutheran church at Lisbon, Ill.
On Oct. 7, 1871, she was united in marriage to Ole Jorstad at Lisbon by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen. In 1873 the family moved from Lisbon to Hamilton county, Iowa and made their home on a farm nine miles west of Story City.
Retired from farming in 1920, the family moved to Eagle Grove. Mrs. Jorstad had been failing in health the last years and died at her home on West Broadway on Wednesday, June 14, 1939, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 16 days.
Mrs. Jorstad was preceded in death by her husband, Ole Jorstad, who died Oct. 4, 1925, and also by five children, of whom two had died in early infancy in Illinois, two died likewise in infancy near Story City, and one daughter, Ida, aged 28, died in 1920 just before the family moved to Eagle Grove.
Mrs. Jorstad is survived by three sons, Peter of Kansas City, Kan., Dr. Ezra of Marshall, Minn., and Henry of Eagle Grove; and by two daughters, Rebecca and Margaret of Eagle Grove.
Mrs. Jorstad experienced conversion in her early womanhood. She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour, was born again to a living hope, continued in the faith and fellowship with her God and Saviour until her death. She was a faithful and active member of the West Side Lutheran church. She had gone to her mansion above, prepared for her by Our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Her many friends in church and community will miss her most of all will she be missed by her family, to whom she was a good and loving mother.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, June 16, at the home in Eagle Grove and at the West Side Lutheran church. conducted by Rev. H. S. Fauske, and she was laid to rest at the cemetery at Story City.
