Mrs. John S. Liddle

Funeral services for Mrs. John Liddle were held Saturday, Jan. 9th, with a short prayer service at the home at 12 o'clock, and one o'clock at Gilbert Congregational church with the pastor, Rev. Alec Russell, in charge. He used as his text a part of the 14th chapter of John's Gospel, and gave a very earnest and impressive talk. The church was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends, many more wishing to come were kept away by the cold and icy roads. The many beautiful flowers were arranged by Mrs. J. h. Reynolds and Mrs. Ira Brown. The pallbearers were Ira Dodds, Ernest, George and Roy Shepard, and Charles and John Hanneman. A quartet composed of Mrs. H. R. Martin, Mrs. L. J. Velman, Clate Manges and B. D. Kent sang "No Night There" and "Rock of Ages." As a solo Robert Clark sang, "The End of the Road."

Mary Virginia Tullock was born at Duanesburg, N.Y., Dec. 28, 1851. She died Jan. 6, 1937, aged 85 years. On Feb. 24, 1874 she was united in marriage to John S. Liddle. In Feb., 1877, they moved to Iowa and established their present home.

Mr. and Mrs. Liddle have seen this community develop from raw prairie to its present state. During her earlier years Mrs. Liddle was a member of the Presbyterian church. During her later years, when her health permitted, she gave support and attended the Congregational church.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, John S. Liddle, two daughters Mrs. Luella Hughes and Mrs. Herbert Snyder, and one grandson, David Snyder. One daughter, Mrs. Abbie Hughes, and 3 grandsons preceded her in death.

Had Mrs. Liddle lived until Feb. 24 she and her husband could have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Their daughter, Mrs. Luella Hughes, has made here home with her parents since the death of her husband, Walter Hughes, last August.
