MRS. TEIG LIVED ON SAME FARM 60 YEARS

Obituary of Well Known Lady Whose Funeral Was Held Saturday

Betsy Wilson Teig, daughter of Fredrik and Guro Wilson, was born March 24, 1851, at Etne, Norway. In 1870 she came with her parents to America and located in Story City.

On January 8, 1975, she was united in marriage to John O. Teig, with whom she established the home northwest of Story City, in Ellsworth township, where she lived for three score years. She and her husband were actively engaged in farming up to the time of Mr. Teig's death, which occurred in 1920. Their marriage was blessed with eleven children, nine of whom are living, namely:

Mrs. Willie Williams of Jewell, Gilbert of Borup, Minn., Henry of Jewell, Ole of Blue Earth, Minn., Chris of Story City, Martin of Stanhope, Severine of Nerstrand, Minn., Mandus of Jewell, and Mrs. Ira Thorson of Story City. The two children who preceded her to the better land were Greta, who died in infancy, and Belle, she died at the age of 16 years. She also leaves to mourn her death 38 grandchildren and four great grandchildren , one sister (Mrs. S. S. Vatne) and a sister-in-law (Mrs. Martha Wilson) both of Ihlen, Minn.

During all the years since she was married Mrs. Teig maintained her own home, but for two years past and stayed alternately with her daughters. Death came to her at the old homestead Wednesday, June 5, following a sickness that had its inception only three days previous. On Sunday she spent considerable time walking around in the garden, enjoying the fine sunshine and the sight of nature in all its spring beauty. Coming in she lay down in what was to be her last sickness. She had filled her 84th year in March of this year.

Funeral Held Saturday

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, at the home and in the Bethel church, Rev. Paulsrud officiating. The pall bearers were six grandsons, Walter Williams, Berdette Teig, Mervin Teig, Everett Teig, Harvey Teig and Kermit Teig. Theo. Quam sang at the funeral. The remains were interred in Fairview cemetery.

All the sons and daughters, with their respective families were present at the funeral, those coming from a distance being Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Teig and Marjorie and Becky of Borup, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ole Teig and Berenice of Blue Earth, Minn.; Severine Teig and Beulah of Nerstrand, Minn.

Mrs. Teig belonged to that valiant company of pioneers who ventured out on the unbroken prairies of Iowa. She loved her home and her family, she worked hard in the years of her prime, but hard work accompanied by peace of mind and heart served but to strengthen her hold on life, and she enjoyed good health almost to the very last of her more than four score years, surrounded by devoted sons and daughters and a large circle of friends.
