Obituary of Ed Jensen

The Jensen family came to America from Ordel, Norway, settling in Illinois. Ed Jensen was born on Dec 28, 1855, at Pontiac, Ill., and departed this life on March 20, 1934, at Story City, Iowa. He was 78 years, 2 months and 20 days old.

He came to Benton county, Iowa, at the age of 14 years, and to Story county in 1877. He was married to Annie Jacobson in 1882. To this union were born 7 children, two of whom, with the mother, preceded him in death.

He was again married to Mrs. Lizzie Erickson [nee knudson]. To this union were born two children [Genora and Lawrence].

He was married to the surviving widow [Caroline (Tuttle) Wastun] on Oct. 27, 1924.

He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his widow, seven children, namely, Henry, Eddie and Otis and Mrs. Emma Olson of Thompson, Mrs. Fred Nickens of Des Moines, and Eunora [should be Genora] and Laurence of Carthage, S.D. There are also two brothers and two sisters: Andrew Jensen of Cherokee, Mrs. Martha Olson of Wisconsin, Mrs. Ellen Nelson and Jim of Story City. There are also 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and four step-children.

Mr. Jensen retired from the farm in 1916 and moved to McCallsburg, from where he moved to Story City 11 years ago.

Funeral services were held Friday, Rev. Fuller officiating. Ruth Fuller sang a couple of the favorite radio hymns of the deceased. The pallbearers were Martin Jensen, August Kleaveland, L. J. Tjernagel, Nels Jewell, T. J. Quam and Ole Thorsbakken.

Three sons and two daughters of Mr. Jensen and two sons and a daughter of Mrs. Jensen were present at the funeral, namely; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Jensen and Mrs. Emma Olson, all of Thompson; Ellen Nickens of Des Moines; Henry and Elmer Wastun of Humboldt and Ada Brakke of Winnebago, Minn. A son-in-law and family, Warren Bushman of McCallsburg, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Brakke and son Everett of Mankato, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Tett and daughter Cleo of McCallsburg were also present.
