OLE O. ROE DIED IN DES MOINES MONDAY EVENING

Well Known Former Story City Man Succumbs to Heart Failure--Funeral This Afternoon

Ole O. Roe, old time resident of Story City and former superintendent of Schools of Story county, died at his home in Des Moines Monday evening, following a heart attack in the morning of that day.

Funeral services are being held today at the Dunn funeral home in Des Moines.

Though Mr. Roe had not lived in Story City for a quarter of century, he was always thought of as one of our citizens. He was born in Norway, but came to this country with his parents as a youth. They settled in Clinton county, but soon moved to Story county.

Mr. Roe taught school here as a young man and was married to Sarah Olson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kittie Olson. He practiced law for short time, then was elected superintendent of the Story county schools, in which office he served five terms. Coming back to Story City he helped organize the State Bank, becoming its president. Receiving appointment as deputy state auditor he moved to Des Moines, where he served in one capacity or another for many years "under the capitol dome," as he was wont to call the state house. He was the first state fire marshal when that office was organized under Gov. Carroll.

Of late years he has been counselor at law for the National Life association of Des Moines.

During all these years he maintained his banking connections in Story City. When the State and First National banks were consolidated he became a director of the latter institution and at the time of his death was vice-president.

The Surviving Family

Four children were born to his first marriage, all of whom survive, namely: Hannah, Mrs. Herbert James and Martin of Des Moines and Charles of Carson. His second wife, who was Miss Lizzie Emmons of Nevada before her marriage, also survives him, as do three sisters, Mrs. O. M. Olson and Anna Roe of Story City and Mrs. Christine Hines of Elkton, Minn. One sister, Mrs. Gust Hanson, recently died in Story City.

Mr. Rose was 77 years old. His had been a life full of keen study, active work and pleasant association with his fellow man. Those who knew him best will feel a great loss in his death. The people of this community, in particular, realize that a good friend has left the busy scenes of this world to take his place in the realms of the spirit and they will hold him in long and kindly remembrance.
