OBITUARY OF MRS. A. H. JOHNSON

Bertha Simonson was born in Molkelnes [sic], Norway, Feb 19, 1843, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N. H. Jacobson of Ames, on June 9, 1931, aged 88 years, 3 months and 21 days.

On July 4th, 1867, she was united in marriage to Andrew H. Johnson, and to this union were born eight children. Her husband and two sons have preceded her in death.

She is survived by six children, Mrs. N. H. Jacobson of Ames, Edward of Blue Earth, Minn., Nels of McCallsburg and Mrs. E. A. Ellston, Albert and Sam of this place.

She was a kind and loving mother and patient in her long sufferings. She will be greatly missed by her children. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church and was faithful in attending services up to the time her health failed her.

The funeral services were held June 12 from the Immanuel church, and she was laid to rest beside her husband at the South St. Petri cemetery.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Edward Johnson and daughters Fern and Bernice of Blue Earth, Minn., Mrs. Mary Johnson and Elmer of Grand Meadow, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Lars T. Johnson and Bessie of Thor, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ellston of Clarion and Mr. and Mrs. Nels Johnson of Zearing.

Mrs. Johnson's 32 grandchildren gave $10 in her honor to the Orphanage Home at Beloit, Iowa, which both Mr. and Mrs. Johnson gave liberal donations to during their lives. The Mission Circle of the Ames Lutheran church also gave $5 in her honor to the missions.

A host of relatives, 32 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and friends are left to mourn her death.
