Obituary of Mrs. Karen Jensen

Mrs. Karen Jensen passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 22, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Williams, at the age of 89 years, 1 month, 27 days, after an illness of two weeks.

Mrs. Jensen was born in Vindelow, Denmark, Sept. 25, 1841, being baptized that year in Vindelow church. She was confirmed in 1855 and married to Nels Jensen Jan. 23, 1862, in the same church.

She and her husband lived in Denmark 32 years. Nine children were born to this union. In 1896 they immigrated to America, coming direct to Story City where they lived together until March 26, 1903, when Mr. Jensen passed away. Since then Mrs. Jensen has made her home with her children.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Christ Larson of Nevada; three sons, Jens of Copenhagen, Denmark, Jacob of Des Moines, and Martin of Story City; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Williams, Mrs. Andrew Miller and Mrs. John M. Johnson, all of Story City; 32 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Three children are dead.

She was a kind, sympathizing and loving mother. She is gone but not forgotten.

The funeral services were held Nov. 25 in the St. Petri Lutheran church, of which she had been a member for about 30 years. Rev. W. B. Scarvie officiated, and interment was made in the Center cemetery. The pall bearers were Gust Ness, Christ Johnson, Nels Laueson, John Jorgenson, John Clausen and John Heggen.

Those present at the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Jensen and family of Des Moines, Mrs. Christ Larson of Nevada, M. C. Hendrickson of Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Alfred Madson of Hiawatha, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jensen, Myrtle Jensen and John Anderson of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Huffman, and Mathias Johnson of Ames, Mrs. W. H. Jackson and son, Elmer Williams of Marengo, Hans Miller of Jewell.
