From Story City Herald September 25, 1930 (page 6)

S. H. OLSON CAME TO AMERICA IN 1870

Samuel Olson Haaim was born at Etne, Norway, Oct. 6, 1849, and died Sept. 11, 1930, aged 80 years, 11 months and 5 days. His parents were Ole Hanson Haaim and Martha Samuelsdatter in Haaland.

He came to America in June, 1870, to his cousin, Samuel Haaland at Roland. The first few years he worked as a hired man on farms in the Story City vicinity. His first place was with James Brown south of town.

He entered the holy bonds of matrimony with Anna Henryson Oct. 13th, 1881. To this union one child was born, Thomas Olson. His wife died Aug. 22, 1905.

On Jan. 6, 1910, he married Mrs. Soneva Lee, who remains to suffer the great loss of a kind and dear husband. Besides his wife, son and Ann Olson, his granddaughter, he leaves a brother, Elias Flokketvedt in Etne, Norway.

Funeral service took place from the St. Petri church, Rev. Scarvie officiating. he became a member of the St. Petri congregation soon after his arrival. The pall bearers were T. Z. Henryson, Albert Larson, Martin Hanson, A. M. Henderson, Joseph T. Johnson and Martin Townswick.

Samuel Olson was satisfied to live in Story county. He made his home here over sixty years. All who knew him will remember his as a quiet and unobtrusive man; one who was a friend to everyone who knew him. A good neighbor and a good citizen; a faithful and upright Christian. He was a farmer up to about 1915 when he retired and moved into Story City.

We will miss Samuel Olson's cheerful greetings.
