Death of Irven Johnson
Irven Richard Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam A. Johnson, was born at Gilbert Mar. 27, 1908. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He attended Gilbert high school. He was ambitious and energetic and of a kind and likable disposition that makes hosts of friends.
He was married to Miss Bernice Holmes of Gilbert October 8,1929, he underwent an operation for appendicitis. After his recovery he has been employed on the Wm. Jacobson farm. He and his wife had all their plans made and a farm rented to start farming March 1, 1931. He was taken seriously ill the first of the month and removed to the Story City hospital, where he was operated on August 15 and 21 for adhesions. He died on Saturday, August 23. He leaves besides a wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Johnson, seven brothers, Carl, Milford, Sanford, Simon, Lawrence, Fred and Arthur, two sisters, Lenora and Mabel, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Gilbert Lutheran church, Rev. Heimarck in charge of the services. The pall bearers were Herman Holmes, Allen Henderson, Clair Musgrove, Noble Partlow, Harold Henderson and Floyd Anderson.

Johnson and family, Albert Hanson, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Dale, Albert Jacobson and Arnold, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Egeland, all of Story City; Mrs. C. E. Lenning and Carroll, Mrs. Art Tokheim and daughter, Mrs. Cramlet and Helen Pauline of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Johnson of Marshalltown; Adelaide Hoff of Kamrar; Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Henderson, Allen and Harold of near Jordan; Mr. and Mrs. Tim Myers and children and Mr. and Mrs. Gerold Elston of Clarion, Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Jacobson, M. T. Hartman family, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Jacobson, Leonard Jacobson, Mrs. Alice Hartman and Mrs. George Thompson of Ames.
