Obituary of Caroline Nelson

Caroline Nelson, daughter of John and Siri Nelson (Tarvestad) was born on the farm, two and one-half miles northwest of Roland, on February 1, 1871. She was brought up in this community and confirmed in Salem Lutheran church. From 1895 to 1915 she lived with her parents in Story City. Her father died in 1899 and in 1915 Caroline, with her mother, moved to Roland and made their home with Rebecca Johnson. Her mother died in 1921.

Caroline had been weak and sickly from asthma for forty years. Since 1919 she had been cared for at the County Home and by various relatives, both in Roland and Story City. She died at the County Home early in the morning of August 7, 1930.

Caroline Nelson was the youngest of seven children of John and Siri Nelson. Two sisters preceded her in death, Annie in 1887 and Mrs. Ellen E. Erickson in 1929. She is survived by three brothers and one sister: Osmond D. Nelson of Grafton, N. D.; Elias Nelson of Osnabrock, N. D.; Nels J. Nelson of Story City, and Mrs. Rebecca Johnson of Roland.

The funeral was held in the Salem church, Roland, Monday, Rev. Bakka officiating in the absence of the pastor. The pall bearers were L. O. Jacobson, Nelius Nelson, Wier Thorson, Osmund Vangness, Joe Johnson and Jesse Thompson. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.
