OBITUARY
William Keras Mathre
William Keras Mathre was born at Lisbon, Ill., May 4, 1889. At the age of 4 he moved with his parents to Iowa, where his father [Oscar Mathre] died in 1893. Then with his mother [Anna (Lund) Mathre] and brother he lived for seven years on a farm with his uncle John. The next two years he lived in Story City, from whence he moved to Ft. Dodge, where he made his home until July 25, 1918. On the latter date he entered the army service and was sent to Camp Gordon. He contracted the influenza, which developed into pulmonary tuberculosis, from which he died at the state sanitarium at Oakdale, June 14, 1918.
His mother had also preceded him the better land Jan. 22, 1915. He was laid to rest in the Story City cemetery, his former pastor, Rev. Heimarck officiating at the funeral.
