AT RIPE OLD AGE
Mrs. Karen Johnson Passes Away at the Age of Eighty-Five
Mrs. Karen Johnson died very suddenly at her home south of Story City last Sunday morning. She had been in poor health for some time, but lately seemed to be somewhat better. On the day of her death she got up as usual and was about to pour coffee at the breakfast table when she was taken sick and within 8 minutes she expired, before aid could reach her.
Mrs. Johnson was almost 85 years old and came to Iowa from Denmark in 1870 with her family. Her husband died three years ago this month at the age of 83. She had two sisters and one brother in Denmark, aged respectively 81, 83 and 87 years, so it will be seen that Mrs. Johnson came of a long-lived family.
One daughter and four sons survive to mourn her loss, namely, Mary, Nels, George, Andrew and John. All the children are at present here, except Andrew who lives in Montana.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted in the Bethel church and interment takin place in the Story City cemetery.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The grave stone of Peter and Karen "Jensen" is in the Fairview Cemetery in Story City, Iowa. However, all their children used "Johnson" as their last name.
