OBITUARY OF MRS. MARCELIUS OLSON

Mrs. Marcelius Maaland Olson, wife of Marcelius Olson, deceased, was born in Aardal, Norway, Sept. 5, 1837 and died at Fergus Falls, Minn., Oct. 7, 1924 at the age of 87 years.

She came to America when a child, arriving in Milwaukee, Wis., with her folks in 1846. The family later resided for some time in La Salle County, Ill., where she grew up and where she was married to Marcelius Olson. In 1866 the young couple struck out for the western prairie and settled on a farm one mile west of Roland. The last twenty-file years she made her home in Story City, until her husband's death two years ago, since then she has lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Anderson at Fergus Falls, Minn.

She is survived by a family of four children, Mrs. Rev. J. B. A. Dale of Dunseith, N.D., E. M. Olson of Fergus Falls, Minn., Lena Olson who has been with her continuously, and Mrs. A. G. Anderson. She also leaves one brother, Knute, living in Earlville, Ill.

Mrs. Olson was a woman of good character, a Christian, and a good a kindly wife and mother. She spent here early girlhood in the famous Muskego settlement near Racine and attended school in a log school house in the woods, in a region where the Indians were very numerous. She saw much of this country's history in the making, and was one of the pioneers who made the northwest what it is today.

A short funeral service was held at the Anderson home in Fergus Falls on Wednesday, October 8, after which the remains were sent to Story City. The funeral was held in the Bethel church, Story City, Friday afternoon, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiating. Besides her children and her son-in-law, Mr. Anderson, a large sympathetic audience attended her funeral. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Roland cemetery.
