O. M. NEWGAARD PASSES AWAY

Aged McCallsburg Citizen Died Sunday After Short Illness

Olaus M. Newgaard passed away at his home at McCallsburg on Sunday, June 15, 1924, after an illness of only a few days, although he has been quite feeble for some time. Funeral services were held from East Bergen Lutheran church on Wednesday, Rev. M. O. Sumstad preaching the funeral sermon.

The deceased was born near Stavanger, Norway, November 6, 1849 and was 74 years, 7 months and 9 days old at the time of his demise. In 1873, he came to this country making his home in Livingston county, Illinois until 1880, when he moved to Cambridge, Iowa. He moved from there to a farm north of McCallsburg 25 years ago and only last spring moved from the farm to McCallsburg.

He was married to Karine Olson in 1875 to which union nine children were born, seven of whom with their mother survive. They are Lewis M. Newgaard, Hubbard; Ben Newgaard, Story City; Mrs. Tom Walden, Gardner, N.D.; August Newgaard, Ames; Mrs. J. F. Yost, Selby, S.D.; Mrs. Henry Anders, Hector, Minn.; Elmer Newgaard, McCallsburg. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
