FORTY-FOUR YEARS IN BUSINESS HERE

T. T. Holm Came from Norway in 1877, When 20 Years Old

Tollef T. Holm was born in Holmen, Skannevik, Norway, July 26, 1857, his parents being Torbjorn and Randveg Holmen. He passed away at the Iowa Lutheran hospital, Des Moines, following an operation for gallstones, on September 8, 1929, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 13 days.

Mr. Holm immigrated to this country in 1877 at the age of 20 years, and came direct to Story City and two years later he entered the Harness and Saddlery business. On March 28, 1886, he was united in marriage to Mary Christensen of this place, and to this union were born six children, two of whom preceded him in death in infancy.

In 1899 he disposed of his harness business and with his family spent the summer in Norway. Upon returning, the family moved to Ihlen, Minn., where six years were spent in farming. He again returned to Story City in the fall of 1905 and purchased the Hardware business which he conducted until the time of his death, marking 44 years of active business in Story City.

He had always been a home loving man, strongly attached to his family, and took great interest in church and community affairs. By his pleasing personality and strict policies of honest and upright dealings with all, he won a wide circle of friends.

While his death came as a distinct shock, there is joy in his passing. His faith has preserved him and his soul is at home with his Savior.

Surviving him besides his wife, are three daughters and one son, namely: Mrs. Henry K. Henderson of Kenyon, Minn., Mrs. Albert Larson, Alvena and Torbjorn, all of Story City; also four grandchildren, and three brothers and one sister, namely: Johannes, Christopher and Berthina of Norway and Ben of Story City. He also leaves many relatives and a great host of friends.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. B. Scarvie in the St. Petri church on September 11th, where a very large concourse of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects to the departed. Interment took place at the Fairview cemetery.

Besides the many beautiful floral tributes the sum of $85 was sent to Missions in his memory.

Blessed Be His Memory!

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God, in His wisdom, has recalled
The boon of his love had given,
And tho the body slumbers here,
The Soul is safe in Heaven.
