SELBERG BURIED LAST TUESDAY

Former Roland Resident Dies at Home of Daughter at Garden City. Eighty-Two Years Old at Time of Death.

Christian Selberg, former resident of Roland, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Peterson at Garden City Sunday morning, June 24. He had been in poor health for some time and welcomed death as a rest after his long sojourn on this earth.

Mr. Selberg was born on December 14, 1840, near Stavanger, Norway, thereby being eighty-two years and six months old at the time of his death. He immigrated to this country in the year 1881 and came direct to Story county and lived here most of the time until he moved up to Garden City to stay with his daughter. He was united in marriage to Julia Rierson in Norway, who preceded him in death thirty years ago. Four children have also preceded their father in death and four are left to mourn his death. They are: Mrs. Charles Olson and Mrs. Gust Peterson of Marshalltown, Mrs. Jacob Peterson of Garden City and Axel Johnson of Omaha.

Funeral services were held for the deceased Tuesday afternoon at the Bergen church here after a short service at the home at Garden City, Rev. M. O. Sumstad, who had been faithful in visiting Mr. Selberg, preached the funeral sermon. Interment took place at the Roland cemetery. Mr. Selberg spend several years at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Ask here and will be remembered by several of his old friends. He was an ardent Christian as far as we can know, and was very faithful in church attendance.
