WM. STARK LAID TO REST MONDAY
William Cornette Stark, eldest son of James and Hester Stark, was born on September 14, 1865, in Ripley county, Indiana, and departed this earthly life at Story City, Iowa, on May 18, 1929, aged 64 years, 8 months and 4 days. There were five other children in the Stark family.
The Starks moved to Iowa when William was 4 years old and settled in Jasper county, where he grew to manhood.
He was married to Miss Sophia Love on January 15, 1891. To this union were born six children: Mrs. R. G. Kalseim of Jewell, E. J. Stark of Fullerton, Calif., Mrs. E. C. Wendel of Nevada, Mrs. E. R. Sunley of Lexington, Ky., and Walter and Harry of Story City.
Mr. and Mrs. Stark have lived in Story City for the past twenty years. For a number of years he managed the Story City business of the Randall Lumber Co. and the Manhattan Oil Co., and when not so engaged worked at his trade of carpenter, in all vocations being found industrious and faithful.
He was stricken with cancer of the throat a year or so ago, since when he has sought and obtained all the relief that present medical science could give--but it was all in vain, and few days before his death he had come to realize that life's battle for him was at an end.
He leaves to mourn his loss besides his wife and children, two sisters, Mrs. Porter Fuller of Newburg, and Mrs. Newt Morgart of Grinnell; and two brothers, E. L. Stark of Marshalltown and C. H. Stark of Grinnell; also five grand children.
Mr. Stark was a home man. He loved his home and his children. Nothing pleased him better than to be in the home with them about him. And throughout his months of intense suffering he was in a measure repaid by their loving loyalty and care. He was very patient in his suffering and sought to bear it all with true fortitude.
Mr. Stark was a member of the Knights of Pythias for thirty years. In 1923 he united with the Grace Evangelical church by letter under the pastorate of Rev. L. L. Orth, and remained a faithful member until his death. And even though his illness prevented his attendance at the services of the church for over a year, he was interested in its welfare and sought to do his part in its support.
Interment was made in the beautiful Fairview cemetery following the funeral services held at Grace church, with the pastor, assisted by Rev. Wendel of Harland, in charge, on Monday afternoon, May 20, 1929.
A quartet consisting of Mrs. James, Mrs. Patterson and Messrs. James and Knoke rendered several appropriate selections.
The pall bearers were: Martin Jensen, J. C. Jessen, Gust Ness, Pete Peterson, Nels Larson and C. H. Hutchison.
Relatives from a distance who attended from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. P. Fuller of Newburg; Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Morgart, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Newton, Mr. Clarence Stark, Mrs. Homer Lowry, all of Grinnell; Mrs. C. Sexton of Ferguson; Mrs. P. Sexton of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Roth and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fleizen of Boone; Clarence Grubb and family of Tracy; Mrs. Mary Roth of Tama; Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Paulson and Blanche and Mrs. O. J. Wendel and daughters Ruth and Helen of Harlan.
Mr. Starks will be greatly missed, not only by his loved ones, but by his many friends neighbors, who held him in very high regard.
