MRS. M. E. GUNDER DIED IN GILBERT

Pioneer Settler Passed Into the Great Beyond Saturday

Mrs. M. E. Gunder, 79 years old, died at her home in Gilbert Saturday afternoon, after an illness of several months with dropsy. She was one of the first pioneers of the community.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock at the home, and at 2:30 at the Congregational church. Both services were conducted by the Rev. John P. Himmel, pastor of the church. Burial was in the Gilbert cemetery.

Mrs. Gunder was born Margaret Linerode in Illinois, and came while a child to settle in the Gilbert community with her parents. In 1868 she was married to Mr. Gunder, who died in August of 1914. The family lived on their farm west of Gilbert until they moved to town 23 years ago.

One son, Clarence Gunder of Marshalltown, three daughter, Mrs. Ralph Zwickey of Gilbert, Mrs. Joseph Smith [should be Schmidt] of Graceville, Minn., and Mrs. Fred Watts of St. Cloud, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Whalen and Mrs. Minnie Walker, of Boone, survive.
