RESPECTED LADY LAID TO REST

Funeral of Prominent Howard Township Resident Held Last Saturday Afternoon from Salem Church. Many Are Present to Pay Last Tribute.

The funeral of Mrs. Odne Howen was held last Saturday afternoon from the family home and from Salem Lutheran church, Rev. J. N. Sandven speaking the words of comfort to the sorrowing family and other friends who had assembled to pay their final respects to one who was highly esteemed. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful. The remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery.

Carrie Eliza Larson was born at Lake Mills, Wisconsin, September 15, 1866, and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. Larson. At the age of five years she moved with her parents to Roland and lived on the Larson homestead until her marriage on December 4, 1889, to Mr. Odne Howen. After their marriage they moved to the homestead south of Roland, where she lived until her death, with the exception of two years that they lived in Roland. Mrs. Howen suffered two strokes of paralysis six years ago, but recovered from them and was quite well until the night of May 30th, when she got up about midnight to look after some little chicks just outside the house. When she returned to her room she remarked that her head ached and that she thought that her death was at hand. She fell into a coma and passed away three hours later without regaining consciousness.

Besides her husband she leaves six children to mourn her sudden departure: Mrs. S. H. Frederickson, Roland; Mrs. L. S. Larson, Roland; Mrs. V. P. Smith, Waupun, Wis.; Wilbur and Esther who are staying at the parental home. She also leaves seven grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Ferree, Marshalltown; Mrs. A. F. Brackney, Clemons; Mrs. Wm. Boehm, Sterling Ill.; two brothers, C. G. Larson, Moran, Kan., and George Larson of Roland.

Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Messrs. and Mesdames V. P. Smith and Lyle Brown, of Waupun, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Boehm, of Sterling, Ill.; Messrs. and Mesdames A. F. Brackney and Geo. Grinstad, of Clemons; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Brackney and Mrs. Christine Winterthun, of Radcliffe; Mr. and Mrs. E. Clay, of Dows, and Mr. and Mrs. M. Henderson, of Jewell.
