From Story City Herald January 31, 1929 (page 3)

MRS. BETSY THOMPSON WAS AN EARLY PIONEER

She Came With Her Parents to Iowa in 1859

Mrs. Betsy Thompson was born Dec. 26, 1846, at Kvinherred, Norway, to the parents Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Olson Donhaug and died at the home of her son Abe at Kanawha, Iowa, Jan. 7, 1929.

She came to America with her parents in 1859 and with them settled in Clinton county, Iowa. There she lived until 1872.

In 1866 she was united in marriage to Mons Thompson. To this union was born 10 children, 5 sons and 5 daughters. The husband, daughters and two sons preceded her in death years ago.

Mrs. Thompson had gradually failed, and when the last illness came, she did not have strength to resist very long and when pneumonia developed, death came and she passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 7, at three o'clock at the age of 82 years and 13 days.

To mourn her departure she leaves 3 sons, Thomas J. of Story City, Carl M. of Hemet, Calif., and Abraham M. of Kanawha. Also 3 brothers, Ole A. D. Olson of St. James, Minn., Abraham Ormsby, Minn., and 3 sisters, Mrs. Bertha Ludvigson of St. James, Minn., Mrs. Martha Anderson and Mrs. Ingrid Jacobson of Story City, besides 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Thompson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church, and remained faithful to her church and to her Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. In Him she trusted and after partaking of communion the day before she died she declared she had nothing to trust in save Jesus only.

In going down the valley of the shadow of death she leaned on the Great Shepherd and feared not. He brought her safely over to the home eternal.

With thanks to her and to God for the kind and faithful service during her long life as Mother and Grandmother we wish to say.

Kind old Mother, Grandmother.
Rest in Peace!
Blessed be thy memory!
