"Knudt O. Highland was born in Etne, Norway, on August 5, 1859, and died July 11, 1925 at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 6 days. His parents were Ole and Thordis Highland. he came to America, to Morris, Illinois, on April 7, 1881, where he remained for three years. he then came westward and on November 30, 1884, he was married to Esabell Tesdahl at Des Moines, by Rev. H. C. Holm. They moved to Roland where they lived a year when they moved to a farm west of town, from there they moved to the Dr. E. Rice farm north of Roland and afterwards lived a few years on the old S.O. Hegland farm, then moved to their own farm, now occupied by Eddie Highland.

They moved to Roland seven years ago. They joined the Bergen church immediately after their marriage and have always been faithful and devoted members.

Mr. Highland had always enjoyed the best of health, until about four years ago. Just thirteen months ago he underwent an operation at the Lutheran hospital at Des Moines, where he was pronounced incurable, suffering from a fibroid tumor.

Besides his wife he leaves five children, Elmer, Eddie and Clarence, all of Roland, Mrs. Carl K. Teig of Lakefield, Minn., and Mrs. Selmer B. Knutsen of Northfield, Minn. Mrs. Knutsen was unable to attend her father's funeral on account of illness. He leaves ten grandchildren and three brothers, Ole, Thor and Andrew Highland, all of Roland, and two sisters, Mrs. John Jacobson of Roland and Mrs. Erick Wierson of Radcliffe. Two other sisters, Mrs. Michaelson and Mrs. Erickson, both of Norway, passed away many years ago.

Funeral services ere held Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock from Bergen church, Rev. M.O. Sumstad officiating, assisted by Rev. G. Smedal of Minneapolis. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.
