JENS HUSTOFT

Jens Hustoft was born at Nerstrand, Norway, in 1833, his parents being Jens and Gjertru Amunson. He was married to Ellen Johana Jensdatter Bustad in 1858. To this union two daughters were born, namely, Mrs. J. K. Sandsgaard of Story City and Serena, who died at the age of 17.

Living for a time at Kopervig and Haugesund, he immigrated with his daughters to America in 1872, his wife having died in 1863.

In 1878 he was married to Martha Serena Jensdatter Bustad, a sister of his first wife. For a time he lived on his farm 8 miles north west of Story City, returned to Norway for a three years' stay, and also lived in Story City and Jewell. After the death of his second wife he sought admission to the old people's home in Story City, where he made his home the last nine years and four months.

His last illness was due to complications incident to old age, culminating in a stroke of paralysis on June 15 and followed by death June 18.

Funeral services were held on June 21 in the Bethel church, where Revs. Paulsrud and Heimarck officiated. Interment was made at Jewell. His five grandsons, John, James Sverdrup, Selmer and Joseph Sandsgaard and his nephew, Nels Nelson of Albia, acted as pallbearers.
