LITTLE BOY IS DROWNED

Only Child of Mr. and Mrs. Mandus Teig Meets Death at Minnesota Home

Relatives and friends and Mr. and Mrs. Mandus Teig were grievously shocked last Monday night when the news came over the wire that their two-year-old son, Richard, had met death by drowning that day.

Mrs. Teig had stepped into the garden to get some vegetables and when she turned to look for the little lad he was nowhere in sight. Knowing his adventurous spirit she made a hurried search for him, only to discover that he had in some unexplained manner climbed into a galvanized iron tank used to catch rainwater and when she reached him life had left his little body.

Mrs. Teig was alone when the accident happened, Mr. Teig being with a threshing crew.

The tank in which the boy was drowned contained about 18 inches of water and was so high that it is a mystery how the lad could get into it.

The remains were brought to Story City Tuesday evening and funeral services were held in the Grace church yesterday afternoon, Rev. Orth officiating, and interment made at Center cemetery. A large concourse of people was present and the large floral tributes bore testimony to the deep sympathy which this sudden and tragic loss had stirred in the hearts of the friends and relatives of the bereaved parents.

Obituary

Richard Ray Teig was born August 2, 1921, at the Teig farm in Hamilton County, Iowa. He was baptized in the Grace Evangelical Church in Story City, Iowa, on September 25, 1921, by Rev. L. F. Smith.

March 1, 1922, he moved to Winnebago, Minn., with his parents where his childhood days were spent in bringing sunshine to his parents and friends.

On August 13, 1923, he died at his home near Winnebago, at the age of 2 years, 11 days. His remains were brought to Story City where they were tenderly laid to rest in the Center Cemetery, his little cousins Burdett Teig, Norman Teig, Walter Williams and Paul Christenson acting as pall bearers and June Teig, Judith Williams, Marjorie Christenson and Mildred Baldus as flower girls.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents and large circle of relatives and friends.

A little pink rose in my garden grew,
The tiniest one of all;
'Twas kissed by the sun, caressed by the dew,
Oh, little pink rose in my garden
Oh, little pink rose, 'twas you!

Oh, little pink rose of your mother's heart!
Have you faded and gone away?
Has the Gardner gathered my little pink rose,
For His loveliest garden today?

Did He need one more blossom of your size and hue
And was that the reason the Gard'ner chose you?
Oh, little pink rose in your mother's heart!
Have you faded and gone away?
