OBITUARY
Gladys Jackson
Gladys Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jackson, was born in Stratford, Iowa, Nov. 23, 1902, and died at the University Hospital, Iowa City, of sinus trouble of which she has been ailing for four years or more, on July 30, 1923, at the age of 21 years, 8 months and 7 days.
She was baptized at the Lutheran Church of Stanhope and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Swea City, and she lived a beautiful consecrated life. Just before she passed away, she sang the two well known hymns, "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
The funeral services were held at the St. Petri church of Story City Friday, Aug. 3rd. Services were conducted by Rev. Duea of Slater, her former pastor, by whom she was confirmed. Her six brothers Orlando, Bazil, Bertel, Arnie, Julius and EmLee were pallbearers. Six of her well known girl friends were flower girls, vix. Fern Chally and Vera Bell, Stratford; Goldie and Rosie Hagen, Myrtle Phillops and Gladys Henderson. The flower offering was very large and beautiful.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her parents and six brothers and three sisters. Some of those who attended the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Williams of Boone, Mrs. Louis Chally and son and daughter of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. B. Busby of Paton, Mr. and Mrs. Eckstrand and Lillian Mathre of Des Moines, and a large number from Stanhope.
Rev. Sherck, of the English Lutheran church at Iowa City, visited Gladys while she was at the hospital, writes to the sorrowing relatives that in his conversations with her he found her to be "true to her faith and seemed to be glad that she had been confirmed in the Lutheran church and I feel sure that she is in the full enjoyment of that faith now that she is gone."
